Trigger Warning 2024 movie is Directed by Mouly Surya. The film stars Jessica Alba, Mark Webber, and Anthony Michael Hall with a rum time of 1h 46m theater released June 21, 2024.
The movie starts with a chase scene that grabs your attention, but soon after, things get confusing. The main character, Parker, (Jessica Alba) An active-duty Special Forces commando gets a call from Jesse (Mark Webber), the local sheriff, telling her that her dad has died in a mine collapse. She rushes home, only to find a suspicious note from her dad, and decides to take over his bar. Parker can’t shake the feeling that something is off. Her dad was a former Green Beret, yet the accident was supposedly caused by him losing the pin to a grenade. Plus, dangerous weapons like machine guns and grenades start showing up in their small town.
Parker’s attempts to find answers prove to be ill-fated almost immediately and she ends up crossing paths with a gang of small-town thugs. Feeling like there’s nobody left she can trust, Parker uses her commando skills and becomes a real-life action hero as she fights her way through the perilous journey through Swann County to uncover the truth and attempt to fix what has gone wrong with the help of her covert ops partner and computer hacker Spider (Tone Bell) and connected local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso).
This is a film that takes itself seriously for it wants to be a thought-provoking tense movie but falls very short of this. Depending on how one approaches it, it could be a smart thriller or a campy action movie; it’s a pity that it falls between the two.
I don’t have an issue with plots that are simplistic as long as the characters have a motive, what I can’t stand is if it is contradictory.
This movie has many plot holes, especially with the Shaw family. Parker finds hidden camera footage of Elvis Shaw (Jake Weary) making illegal arms deals with terrorists. This leads us to Elvis’s father, Senator Swan (Anthony Michael Hall), who’s running for re-election, and his brother Jesse’s involvement. The whole thing is confusing. How is Elvis testing heavy weapons near an army base? Why does Senator Swan care so much about getting Parker’s support? And why should we be rooting for Parker when we know so little about her?
Mouly Surya is a talented director, known for her previous film, “Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts,” which was well-received. She brings some of her skill to this movie, creating beautiful scenes of the mountainous landscape, dusty roads, and old wooden buildings. The scenes where characters interact in these settings are nicely done. However, the action scenes, especially the big shootouts, don’t work as well.
The setting of the movie is a small, rural town, which isn’t fully developed in the story. There’s a hint of tension with a mostly Latinx town being controlled by a white family, and some conservative political themes are touched on. These could have added depth to the movie but aren’t explored enough.
The fight scenes also suffer from being too short and not very exciting. Parker’s big infiltration of the Swan compound is over before it gets going. Jessica Alba, who plays Parker, doesn’t quite shine as an action hero. She doesn’t have the presence or the skills to make Parker a memorable character, and it’s obvious when a stunt double is doing the more impressive moves.
In conclusion, “Trigger Warning” is not horrible but equally not impressive, at least not in most aspects. Yes, it has its good work but unfortunately, the script and the action sequences are quite weak. Netflix has put out quite a few revenge-type movies and this one while just a little better than some of the others doesn’t try.
Trigger Warning 2024 Parents Guide Age Rating
Trigger Warning TV-MA by the Motion Picture Rating (MPA) for language, smoking, and violence.
Violence & Gore: The film uses action scenes where there are shootouts, hand fights, and several instances of blowing up something. People employ socially undesirable items such as machine guns, grenades, and even other powerful weapons. Occasionally a movie is violent and contains scenes of shooting where sometimes blood is shown and there are scenes where people get injured and sometimes killed.
Profanity: The social language is very dominant in the entire film for it consists of harsh language as seen from the storyline.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking: Sexual content is present in the show through characters’ drinking and partying in a bar. One could also note that there are scenes depicting drug consumption and sales, which may be considered a rather sensitive issue by some viewers.
Sexual Content: Sexual connotations are not described in specifics; it appears that this aspect of the film has either mild or no representation at all.
I pinpoint the movie’s themes as revenge, corruption, and betrayal. It also covers political motifs to some extent and racial relations but does not develop them completely: the majority of the characters are Latin American, and the town is controlled by a white family.
Thus, the purpose of this guide is to assist parents in understanding whether the movie (Trigger Warning ) is suitable for their children given the aforementioned mature content.
