The Firing Squad is a 2024 Movie Directed by Timothy A. Chey. The film stars James Barrington, Kevin Sorbo, and Cuba Gooding Jr., with a runtime of 1h 33m, and will be released on August 02, 2024.
The storyline of The Firing Squad is based on the events that transpired in 2015. Thus, the events depicted in the movie are not very familiar to the audience. The movie is mostly shot in Indonesia and is based on the true story of eight prisoners executed over drug smuggling offenses. All eight found Jesus and went out singing ‘Amazing Grace’ – One eye-witness, Karina de Vega, reported that all eight of the condemned group sang Amazing Grace just after midnight. They also sang ‘Bless the Lord O My Soul’ before their song was abruptly interrupted by the sound of the gunfire, as the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The warden of the camp, played by Tupua Ainu’u, is a man full of hate and torment-which he takes out daily as he abuses his inmates physically and verbally. The main character, played by James Barrington, is an inmate who suffers a lot of abuse. During a stint in solitary confinement, he has a life-changing encounter with God.
I don’t want to give away too much of the story because you need to see it.
That it is a true story makes it even more sensational. It is shocking to learn that, as an American, you know how the justice system works in other parts of the world. I was engrossed with the story and the direction from the film’s onset. What hooked me was the acting and the opportunity to look into an unfamiliar world. The movie had a deep impact on me, and by the end of it, I was moved to tears. I know about the existence of the death penalty in Asian countries after I visited Singapore last December. It was unfortunate to see such men, but it never crossed my mind that they were well aware of their risks. I understand that this film is telling me that these men are guilty. However, I also understand that even when you are in a hellish place, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
The two messages that I loved about this film are:
- There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus.
- Today is the day of salvation.
