Inside Out 2 is a 2024 movie Directed by Kelsey Mann. The film Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black with a rum time of 1h 40m theater released June 14, 2024.

Riley is on the precipice of turning 13, living happily with friends, and playing hockey inside her head, there is a guiding voice provided by the character of Joy voiced by Amy Poehler. Joy has gotten the Inside Out class and collaborates with the other emotions, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear voiced by Phyllis Smith, Liza Lapira, Lewis Black, and Tony Hale as she aims at making Riley able to have an interesting, full life. Then suddenly the Puberty Alarm begins, and a demolition squad is demolishing windows and messing with the console.

After this, Joy and her friends are left to contend with a new, über-sensitive console, as the tech ages. And as everyone is trying to work it out, Riley’s new best buddy anxiety Maya Hawkee emerges from the darkness in the company of Envy-Ayo Edebiri, Embarrassment-Paul Walter Hauser, and Ennui-Adèle Exarchopoulos, hyper-active, full of ideas on how to make Riley’s adolescence successful.

In the opening scene, Riley moves to a new city with her family and is in the car on her way to the hockey camp when her closest friends inform her that they will not be going to the same high school anymore. Anxiety swiftly takes over the console and produces a frightening turn of events and pertinent strategies where Riley ends up being a hockey camp star and has friends in her new school. However, the evil master plan of Anxiety kills Riley’s self-identity and now it is the turn of Joy and Riley’s childhood friends to find out how to reintroduce the real Riley to herself.

Inside Out was originally released by Pixar in 2015 and was an excellent movie addressing the complexity and the lighter side of human emotions and potential, altogether amusing adults and children. I must admit, Inside Out 2 captures the same kind of wonder and in some ways, enhances it. This movie depict a compassionate view of the insecurity and social suffering of early adolescents and will be welcomed by children and parents who did not hammer into their subconscious the desire to shrug off the sensation of shamelessly mortifying middle school embarrassments.

Adults will also enjoy the film’s humor: During the screening of the movie that I watched at a theatre are constantly heard children’s and parents’ laughter. Anxiety takes a lot of luggage (she seems to be more like a mother carrying several kids) and Ennui is almost always glued to her phone; Racetalk is sarcastic to the extent that we are given a gap in her head; there are far too many gags as one-liners to list here. Moreover, all the fun and laughter within the film are free from any sexual references or other forms of objectionable themes and materials though there are some occurrences of falls, a few nukes, and incidences of danger. This movie is for kids in the age bracket of older kids and tweens, but normally most children won’t mind it if they are sensitive kids they would.

It is about profound emotions that the best family films contain, and Inside Out 2 is full of such feelings. Besides the scene which recalls the feeling of being a parent to thirteen years old child, the show is full of signals that work for children appropriately. To a larger extent, it is a coming-of-age story about friendship, standing up for your friend, respecting oneself, and adapting to change. In a world where children carry anxiety and other mental health problems to and from school, this script provides a realistic view of dealing with overwhelming feelings but in a funny way. Like the earlier statement, it may not prove to be a highly advanced psychological movie but it certainly is worth watching for with the entire family.

Inside Out 2 2024 Parents Guide Age Rating

Inside Out 2 is Rated PG by the Motion Picture Rating (MPA) for some thematic elements.

Considering some aspects, the movie contains the elements of anxiety, friendship, self-identity, and the difficulties of the teenage period, and all those aspects are depicted in good faith. Also, there are no obscene scenes or cursing in the movie so it may be suitable for youngsters, pre-teens, older kids, and tweens despite several instances of mild intense sequences. I believe that owing to the cartoonish aesthetics of the movie, it is suitable for both children and adults.

Sex & Nudity: None. The movie contains no annual or sexual scenes or even any jokes about that.

Violence & Gore: Minimal. Yes, there are some incidences of falls, some jolly ‘nukes, ‘and instances of peril but no gruesome and tremendously violent scenes.

Profanity: None. Long conversations don’t contain material that is gross to listen to and will probably be well-received by kids.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking: All of the aforementioned aspects were important; none can be stated here as being unimportant. Lack of teasing and portrayals of alcohol use/abuse, drug use/abuse, or smoking.
