Harold and the Purple Crayon is a 2024 Movie Directed by Carlos Saldanha. The film stars Zachary Levi, Lil Rel Howery, and Benjamin Bottani, with a runtime of 1h 32m, and will be released on August 02, 2024.
What is ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’ About?
Harold (Zachary Levi) can make anything come to life in his book by drawing it. “As he grew older, so too did his creativity,” the trailer description reads. So, Harold picks himself right off the book when he grows up. And that is when we find Harold stepping down to the real world, risking it all. But his friends Moose and Porcupine cannot allow the little rabbit to go alone and thus chase after him. And Harold soon finds out he still has much to learn. This aspect of Harold drawing anything using his crayon still holds to real life. He attempts to draw a bicycle with his purple crayon and draws a bike that falls, turns his shoes into rollerblades, and draws butterflies and a functional airplane. There is a quote from the character, Gary (Jemaine Clement), in the trailer and he says, ‘Do you know what brought you to life? It’s what your crayon is made of. The most powerful, extraordinary stuff on earth.’ “Pure imagination,” adds Gary. However, the capacity to imagine is placed in the wrong hands. It is up to Harold and his friends to employ creativity to save both the real world and his home.
The film is a sequel to the original book, narrating the story of an adventurous Harold who uses his magical purple crayon, draws himself out of the book into the real-life world, and learns a lot about life to pursue.
Bringing the Beloved Book to Life
To make the beloved book come alive, this is the first time this book has been made into a movie. Harold and the Purple Crayon was first published in 1955, and the author and illustrator of this book is named Crockett Johnson. Since then, it has been in continuous print. Anonym from Harper Collins shares with Parents that the original book has sold more than 5. 5 million copies worldwide, including Spanish editions.
This appears so because Johnson continued to write other books featuring Harold and his adventurous world in his imagination. From the books, Harold can go on a treasure hunt, make a fairy tale, travel to the North Pole, soar through the sky, and visit the circus. He even starts learning his ABCs and paints a picture for his room. These books add over 10 million copies to the total global sales of the series.
