1920: Horrors of the Heart is a 2023 horror movie Directed by Krishna Bhatt. The film Star Rupam Bag, Amit Behl, and Barkha Bisht with a rum time of 2h 2m theater released June 23, 2023.
It revolves around the life of a young girl named Meghna, who wants to reveal something very special to her father on her upcoming 21st birthday, a secret boyfriend (Gashmir). But when she gets home, she finds something horrible: in this case, it means that her father has committed suicide. Meghna is still in a state of confusion and despair, so she turns to search for answers. One day she discovers a diary in a drawer of her father’s desk, which reveals that the reason was owing to poverty and he could not satisfy the extravagance of her mother. Sensing the situation was irreversible, he could not find any reason to continue living and committed suicide.
Unwilling to take ‘no’ for an answer, Meghna ends up moving in with her mother, Radhika, and her stepfather Shantanu, saying she has no other place to go. She secretly hopes to bring in the spirit of her father and expose the truth to everyone in the house. Bizarre and macabre occurrences take place; Meghna has to uncover the truth about what is happening.
Some lighter and entertaining scenes can be attributed to Avika Gor and Barkha Bisht who played their roles well despite being mediocre.
Danish Pandor, who plays Meghna’s boyfriend Arjun, and Rahul Dev as Shantanu, don’t deliver very convincing performances and feel a bit fake. The director, Krishna Bhatt, had an interesting story to work with, written by Mahesh Bhatt and Suhrita Das, but she didn’t manage to make it effective. Instead of being scary, the last twenty minutes of the movie are more laughable, which ruins the horror experience.
Vikram Bhatt’s films are usually known for having great music, but this movie is disappointing in that area too. The special effects are not well done at all and even appear as though they were done by some kids at home, and this is rather odd considering that we are living in the information age. “1920: This was an opportunity for Vikram Bhatt’s daughter to carry the film ‘Horrors of the Heart’ but many times she failed to capitalize. The horror aspect of the movie never comes out well and as a result, does not help in achieving its intended purpose of delivering a real horror movie.
1920: Horrors of the Heart 2023 Parents Guide
Violence: This movie contains 5 explicit scenes of violence with occasional blood splatter and 3 more scenes showing a consequence of violence, but no blood. The biggest one is when you find a character that has committed suicide and this is one in a very disturbing and dramatic scene that brings out the dismay. Furthermore, there are some ghost-oriented thrilling scenes and some physically intense combats in this movie, which also go a long way in creating the right ambiance. Such scenes will certainly provoke controversies and can cause danger, especially for young audiences.
Language: The film contains mild profanity, though it is not pervasive or excessive. This means there are occasional uses of swear words, but nothing extremely harsh or vulgar.
Sexual Content: Two sexually explicit scenes are present in the film, both of which can hereby be briefly described here as follows: There isn’t anything like that, and the affection of Meghna with her boyfriend is also not shown crudely or obsessively.
Substance/Drug Use: The portrayal of substance use is absent from the entire movie and there are no scenes of that sort. The pervasive use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco is not depicted by the characters, and for this reason, it can be said that the program is good for young teens.
The movie contains several scenes that are suspenseful and include strange paranormal phenomena. By having a ghost and peculiar occurrences happening in the house, the viewer feels some form of hunting or horror. Finally, there is an element of the series where the last scenes are specifically meant to be scary and can be intense for young or frightened viewers.
This film is recommended for teenagers and adults over thirteen years. Parents should be aware that the film has mature themes and facial scenes that can be disturbing. Thus, it is advised that parents either accompany the children during their watching of the film or at least talk to them after about certain specific scenes or parts. All sorts of elements contribute to making the movie a thoroughly suspenseful and dramatic experience for most children – on the one hand, supernatural horror and tragedy can make for great film genres; on the other, it is the powerful combination of fantastical and real that provokes viewers’ thoughts in the end.
