Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a 2024 Action and adventure TV series created by Christopher Ford and Jon Watts. The film stars Jude Law, Robert Timothy Smith, and Kerry Condon. The series consists of 8 episodes total and will be released on December 2, 2024.
As with the Star Wars series that preceded it, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew wisely premiered with two episodes, rather than leaving audiences hanging at the end of the pilot episode. When watching Episode 2 written by Christopher Ford and Jon Watts and directed by David Lowery one can’t help wondering if he was brought on board to direct it because the episode is essentially Peter Pan with a touch of Star Wars ad not just because Jude Law who starred in Lowery’s Peter Pan & Wendy finally puts in an appearance in episode 11. Following the season premiere’s cheerful status introduction with pirates, Skeleton Crew immediately wraps that part up by leaving the band of children right in the arms of the dangerous pirates.
What is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew All About Episode 1:
The first episode begins with four members of the team, Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB, portrayed by Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Kyriana Kratter, panicking because they are stuck in space. But the outlook becomes even grimmer when they find that they are not the only ones on the starship. The ‘dead’ protocol droid they encountered is alive, and quite homicidal in its search for the ship’s missing and long-dead captain. This is evident when SM-33, portrayed by Nick Frost, finds out that the captain cannot be located, he grabs the children and pulls them through the ship to look for the captain.
If there was a message in Star Wars, it is that space is teeming with strong-willed brown-haired women who will not tolerate anybody messing with them, and Fern is not too different from Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Padmé (Natalie Portman), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). She dramatically states that SM’s captain is dead and that she is the one who killed him so he has to listen to her, she is the new captain and the droid has to follow her orders.
Surprisingly, her plan works, and SM-33 yields to his new authority figure. Fern instructs him to teach her how to pilot her new starship while urging him to search his memory banks for how to get them back to At Attin. There’s only one catch with this plan… SM-33 has never heard of At Attin! (But hey, at least he has heard of Aldhani.)
‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ Episode 2 Sets Course for Port Borgo
While SM-33 is explaining to Fern how to fly the starship, Neel and Wim decide to go for a walk. Neel, for example, comes across a pair of skeletons with pistols and cutlasses stuck to the wall, and Wim discovers the captain’s quarters that are indeed reminiscent of the ones from Peter Pan’s Captain Hook. Wim & Neel wear the comical tricorn hats they found and pretend to tease the late captain’s brass compass and telescope. One could probably picture the two as being the ‘Lost Boys’, rummaging through the captain’s things. When SM-33 cannot bring up At Attin in his memory banks, he chooses to engage hyperspace and navigate to Port Borgo, which he qualifies as a place where people get either a comfortable bed or a shallower grave. It is certainly fitting for the port that is reminiscent of the Star Wars universe’s version of Tortuga from Pirates of the Caribbean. All sorts of trouble one can imagine can be found in Port Borgo and, of course, trouble does not take long to locate kids.
The children decide to separate (Fern follows KB, Wim follows Neel) to travel around the colorful port, but the presence of children attracts attention, especially from the woman named Melna (Paloma Garcia-Lee), who immediately starts worrying for the safety of Fern and KB. When she realizes what is going on, she runs up to them and asks them some questions as to who invited them and where they came from. The girls look doubtful but when they plead that they are from At Attin, even Melna has no clue that it is a planet.
Curiouser and curiouser! However, Wim and Neel have gotten lazy and have entrusted their stomachs to make all the decisions for them so they walk themselves up to a food stand where they order the ‘daily special,’ which, by the looks of it, is something they ought not to have put in their mouth. Lastly, when it is time to pay, the barkeep is quite shocked to be paid with an Old Republic credit by Wim.
He attempts to swindle as many credits from them as possible and that attracts even more attention from the pirates around Wim since all of them want a slice of whatever Wim is holding.
The situation escalates to the worse when Vane (Marti Matulis) enters the scene to see what has happened to Luda. He asks Wim where he and his companion are from, and when the latter answers that they are from At Attin, they do not receive the same reaction as the rest of the people they have met. At Attin, it appears there is a “lost planet of eternal treasure” and each of those rogues dreams of the big bucks. Wim and Neel are desperate to escape and when they regroup with Fern and KB, he’s met his match.
Fern gets out her blaster and fires a shot in the air and Vane is not impressed with several children. He grabs the blaster from her as if he is taking candy from a baby. They give it another shot at escaping towards their ship, where SM33 does his best to keep the pirates away from them, however, these guys seem to be slightly more intelligent than four kids and a washed-up Star Wars droid. SM-33 is immediately deactivated, and Brutus (Fred Tatasciore, Stephen Oyoung) arrives to order the children to be taken to the brig for further interrogation regarding At Attin.
Jude Law Steps Into the Light in ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ Episode 2
In Episode 2, the children contemplate being in space and the episode begins in their spaceship and ends with them in a shady cell. Instead of attempting to make a scruffy dog grab the key and bring it to them, Neel makes an effort to make an adorable rat he has befriended steal the key for them, which does not go anywhere. Luckily, they aren’t alone in their cell: Brutus and the pirates have hurled them into the same sea where Jude Law’s enigmatic figure can be seen.
Jude Law steps out of the darkness and promises to assist the children in trying to liberate themselves from the brig but expects to be taken away from Port Borgo in exchange. The track, “The Force Theme” by John Williams, which is masterfully covered by Mick Giacchino, plays with bolstered synths during a scene where Law’s character uses the Force to subtly take the key, thus ensuring that they have a way out. Skeleton Crew does understand how to lure viewers with the right ending to stimulate their interest and make them wait for the next episode.
